Nature Outings

Nature Outings

Nature outings have been an important part of RLC tradition...

since its beginning. Members and guests enjoy getting together every summer, often with expert leaders as guides , to learn more about the ecology of the lake and about ways to maintain and protect its values.

Hikes have been popular summer outings for Conservancy members and guests: Red Pine Island requires a map for hikers to find their way; Green Island paths weave through birch woods and deep moss; the Beaver Pond Trail in Voyageurs National Park is a study in ecosystems and geology; Mallard Island is certain to bring the fortunate hiker peaceful moments, and the trails in Anderson Bay offer an exceptional experience at any time of the year.

Kayak and canoe enthusiasts especially enjoyed two organized paddling events, one around Goose Island and another around Deer Island that included a tour of Camp Koochiching. A ride in the Virginia , an elegant restored wooden boat, provided a memorable outing for members.

Members who share a love of the lake look forward to continuing this pleasurable tradition for years to come.
